I created this cool piece of art I simply called "Johnny Powers,” and I’m excited to share it. This piece originated as a request from a buddy that commissioned me to create it. But, as an artist who works with duct tape, I found myself inspired by the story behind this talented guitarist and singer from Detroit. So, paying tribute to Johnny Powers with this piece was not a chore, but rather 100% an honor. Johnny had such an incredible career, being signed to Sun Records and later becoming the first white artist signed to Motown Records. I wanted to capture his essence and musical legacy in my artwork. The portrait is based on one of Johnny's album covers, and I incorporated pink and purple tones to bring out his vibrant personality. But what makes this piece even more special is the QR code I included. When scanned, it links directly to Johnny's album, allowing viewers to experience his music while appreciating the artwork. Sadly, Johnny passed away at the age of 84 in January 2023. This tribute is my way of honoring his incredible talent and the impact he had on the music industry. I really hope that my buddy, Johnny, would have appreciated this tribute. It's my way of saying thank you for the music and the inspiration.
