Madison Winter – Artist Interview
Madison’s origin story as an artist began during the quarantine when she found herself with ample time and a desire to explore her creativity. She recalls sitting on her bedroom floor, surrounded by paints, and painting a clipboard. It was a fun and fulfilling experience for her, allowing her to get lost in time and express herself freely. The quarantine provided her with an opportunity to pursue art without any pressure or deadlines.
However, as the pandemic ended and life returned to normal, Madison’s relationship with art shifted. She found herself overwhelmed by deadlines and expectations when she created five art pieces as birthday gifts for her friends. This experience burned her out and made her realize that she didn’t want to have the pressure of turning her art into a career. She wanted to keep art as a hobby she could enjoy without the constant scrutiny and demands.
Madison’s perspective on her future with art is open-ended. While she recognizes that her art skills could be beneficial in various career paths, she doesn’t have a specific idea of what she wants to do with her art. For now, she wants to focus on making art and having fun with it. She doesn’t want to feel obligated to turn it into a career but rather wants to explore and experiment without any expectations.
When it comes to her creative process, Madison admits that she isn’t the best at coming up with her own ideas. She finds inspiration from other pieces, whether it’s from friends’ artwork or random artists online. She takes the main image or idea and adds her own style and interpretation to it. This process allows her to create unique and personal artwork that reflects her own DNA, muscles, and brain.
Madison’s decision to participate in Forever 11, her father’s NFT project, was partly influenced by her father’s enthusiasm and the opportunity to share her art with a wider audience. She saw it as a cool idea and a chance to connect with different people through her art. Although she may have been “forced” into it, it was a loving force that aligned with her genuine interest in creating and sharing her artwork.
Madison’s perspective on art as a hobby, not a career, is refreshing. She values the freedom and enjoyment that comes with creating art without the pressure of turning it into a profession. She wants to explore and experiment with her creativity without any expectations or deadlines. Madison’s approach to art serves as a reminder that pursuing art as a hobby can be fulfilling and liberating, allowing individuals to express themselves without the constraints of a career.
